The Addition

2022 Spring, Providence

Double or Nothing, in the other words, nothingness could be purely depicted by its connotation, "the absence of all magnitude or quantity", it could also be a performance of subtracting and merging, a perceived nothingness.
The resonance between the addition and the existing is not to suppress either element in the system but rather to create a “rhythmic complexity” that relates the contrasting and otherwise irreconcilable elements. To curate this kind of visual and spatial experience, designing a “Superadjacency system” to perform physical closeness between the two, how they could be broken down and simplified in order to merge under one system; thinking about the distance between each element in space according to the viewpoint of its viewers. To perceive the resonance between objects can not only be directly presented by the physical closeness but also happened within intentional placements in space, to imply the resonance and highlight the difference. The implied resonance is not only the display of the elements that share similarities, contrasting in scale and geometry in the environment. In the addition to the Gallery, the resonance is happening with a respective distance and the intension to create a visual continuity. The experience of walking through the form constrasting to the context stimulates and brings the attentions towards both subject in sight.
